I could have gone on and on. Just Google Weight Loss Ads to see some of the crazy ways, these unscrupulous marketers try to lure you into buying worthless products and programs. Did you know that at one time weight loss ads promoted adding sugar to your diet and even smoking cigarettes as ways to lose weight? The fitness and weight loss industry is shameless about promoting quick weight loss schemes, special workouts, pills and “secrets” to hook you into spending money. Unfortunately, most of these programs only make your wallet thin.




Here are the Facts:


Lose weight quickly without developing lifestyle habits to maintain your weight loss will only lead to rebounding and gaining back the weight you lost.


Losing weight too quickly can negatively affect your metabolism, muscle and bone density.


Excessively cutting calories to lose weight can actually slow down your metabolism, (the amount of calories you burn at rest), and reduce your bone density leaving you prone to osteoporosis later in life.


There is no one secret or secret food to help you lose weight. All foods can fit into your nutrition plan if you choose high quality foods that support your nutrition goals most of the time.


You cannot just lose belly fat. Fat is lost throughout the entire body through exercise and proper nutrition. You cannot target one area of the body for fat loss.


Short high-intensity 20 or 30-minute workouts will burn calories but should not be done exclusively. These workouts are often too intense for the body to recover putting you at risk for injury.


Focusing on weight loss is the wrong frame entirely. Instead of focusing on an unrealistic image of beauty, shift your focus to health and fitness. Everyone wants to look their best but letting the number on a scale determine how we fell about ourselves is just plain wrong!

I am Jim Gallagher, the co-owner of Strength for Life, a personal training studio in Springfield, PA. Over the past 30 plus years, I have been helping people become their best selves by adopting a regular program of exercise.


At one time or another, I have worked in every segment of the fitness industry and have seen the good and bad. Unfortunately, many fitness centers exist only to line the pockets of their owners with money taken from members who do not show up. That why we developed our own studio, Strength for Life, to make sure that we focus on getting results for our clients.
